Welcome to my page!
My name is François Janse van Rensburg. I am a South African historian and archivist living and working in the Netherlands.
Since 2026, I have been working as the archivist and librarian of the Wereldmuseum. I have over 8 years of experience working in the museum sector in different roles, including as provenance researcher investigating colonial collections in the Netherlands.
My research interests include the history of Dutch ethnographic collections, the unique value of museum archives, Dutch colonial collections originating from places not directly colonized by the Netherlands, and unexpected little-known links between the different parts of the world in the colonial period such as between Africa and Asia.
Mijn naam is François Janse van Rensburg. Ik ben een Zuid-Afrikaanse historicus en archivaris die in Nederland woont en werkt.
Sinds 2026 ben ik werkzaam als archivaris en bibliothecaris in het Wereldmuseum. Ik heb ruim 8 jaar werkervaring in de museumsector, daaronder als herkomstonderzoeker met een focus op koloniale collecties in Nederland.
Mijn onderzoeksinteresses richten zich op de geschiedenis van Nederlandse etnografische collecties, de bijzondere waarde van museumarchieven en Nederlandse koloniale verzamelingen afkomstig uit gebieden die niet direct door Nederland zijn gekoloniseerd. Daarnaast ben ik geïnteresseerd in onverwachte en weinig bekende verbindingen tussen de verschillende delen van de wereld tijdens de koloniale periode, zoals de relaties tussen Afrika en Azië.
